"Cherokee Carving: From the Hands of our Elders" is an educational and focused study, targeting carvers who were active among Eastern Band Cherokee in the early to mid 20th century. This publication aims to initiate and inspire the next generation of scholars to learn from local tradition bearers, discover their stories, and reflect on their values. Anna Fariello, associate professor at Western Carolina University, illustrates the breadth of a handcrafted practice that includes pipes, masks, figures, and bas relief.
