The inspiration for Winterhawk pottery came from the artwork found in the southeastern native burial and Temple mounds. These mounds, some dating back as far as 700 A.D. were built by the people known as the Mississippian mound builders. Known for their magnificent earth and temple mounds and sophisticated ceremonial art, the Mississippian mound builders were the forerunners of the Muscogee, Creek and Cherokee people. Great care and respect is given to each handmade piece ensuring quality and enjoyment for years to come the stoneware is made from different clays from the Mississippi Valley area in Georgia. Contemporary ceramic techniques are used to express the ancient images.
